Cherbourg

The deep water port of Cherbourg is one of the most important on the Western Channel accepting ferries, fast craft, freight and cruise ships. Brittany Ferries operate from both Poole and Portsmouth in England to Cherbourg and the likes of Royal Caribbean, Fred Olsen and Cunard utilise the deep water to dock their cruise ships.

During its history Cherbourg has seen many naval battles and the wreck of American warship CSS Alabama was discovered in the 1980's. The battle of Cherbourg ws fought in 1944 after the Normandy invasion. The world famous RMS Titanic even visited the port its first stop after leaving Southampton.

The E46 links to Cherbourg from Caen and the Loire Valley. There is a link from Brittany via the E03.
