The important and influential port of Caen is the capital and largest city of Basse Normandie. Brittany Ferries and P&O Ferries both operate regular services to Caen. With a selection of churches, museums, Friday and Sunday markets, restaurants and shops Caen is a great destination in its own right along with having superb links to Paris, Brittany, Loire and South West France. An historical fact is William the Conqueror married in Caen and is where his tomb can be found in the Church of Saint-Etienne. The city still has ancient quarters that survived World War ll with narrow streets lined with busy shops, a marina in the heart of the city and numerous enchanting parks and gardens await visitors.
Getting to Caen:
If travelling from Paris, you need to take the A13 Rouen/Caen motorway, and then you should follow signs displaying Ouistreham/Car ferry.
