The pretty medieval port of Boulogne has seen a recent growth in tourism. Napoleon used Boulogne as his base before his invasion of Englnad in 1802-05. The Cathedral was re-built by the Catholic Church taking 40 years and is a dominant feature within Boulogne along with the old town and city wall walk.
Being a fishing town the restaurants on the Rue De Lille offer fresh sea food and fine wine. With enticing boulangeries and patisseries visitors will be spoilt for choice as they walk through the cobbled streets. The Nausicaa National Sea Life Centre allows families to experience tropical lagoons, rays and sea lions in a natural environment along with thousands of other sea creatures and fish.
Getting to Boulogne:
From Rouen, Paris, Normandy, Saint-Omer, Calais...... If you are travelling from the above destinations, you should take the exit n29 from the A16: signposted – Boulogne Centre When you arrive at the first roundabout, take your first left and follow the sign “Boulogne Les Ports...”. When you arrive at the second roundabout, again, follow signs “Boulogne Les Ports...” which should be the first road on the right. You should then drive alongside the river for approximately 550meters. Keep following the signs until you see the sign displaying “Car Ferry”, and follow this.
